Thinking of Visiting Flora Day? Read This First

Flora Day is just over two weeks away, and you can already feel it in Helston.

The town feels different. Lighter. Busier. Full of anticipation.

It’s not just another date in the calendar. It’s part of the rhythm of the place. The music, the dancing, the tradition. It brings everyone together, whether you’ve lived here your whole life or you’re experiencing it for the first time.

And for us, it’s even more special.

The Midday Dance passes right through our office. Every year, we step outside and watch the town at its very best. It’s one of those moments that reminds you exactly why living here is so special.

A Simple Guide to the Day

If you’re planning to come along, here’s how the day unfolds:

07:00 – Early Morning Dance
The town wakes up early, with dancers moving through the streets as the day begins.

08:30 – Hal-an-Tow
A historic, loud, and unmistakable procession telling the story of St George and the Dragon.

09:50 – Children’s Dance
Hundreds of local school children dancing through the town. One of the most memorable parts of the day.

12:00 – Midday Dance
The main event. Formal, traditional, and the highlight. This is when Helston is at its busiest.

17:00 – Evening Dance
A final run through the streets, bringing the day to a close.

Visitor Tips (From People Who Know It Well)

Arrive early
By late morning, Helston is packed. If you want a good spot, aim to be in town early in the morning.

Pick your viewing spot
Meneage Street and Coinagehall Street are great places to watch the dances pass through.

Expect the unexpected
The dancers don’t just stay on the streets. They move through shops, businesses, and private spaces. That’s part of what makes it unique.

Join in the tradition
You’ll see Lily of the Valley everywhere. And if you get the chance, a pint of Spingo at the Blue Anchor is part of the experience.

Why It Matters More Than You Think

It also says a lot about what “local” really means.

Not just knowing the streets, but being part of them.

Understanding the people, the traditions, and what makes this place tick.

Because when it comes to selling a home here, that understanding matters.

Knowing how Helston feels in May.
Knowing what draws people in.
Knowing why someone chooses this town over anywhere else.

That’s what shapes how a home is positioned, marketed, and ultimately sold.

Some agents list property here.

We live it.

Want to See Homes Before Everyone Else?

The best homes don’t always make it to the open market straight away.

We give our registered buyers a Heads Up first.

That means:

  • New properties before they hit Rightmove
  • Early access to price reductions
  • A better chance of securing the right home

If you’re thinking about moving, it’s the simplest way to stay ahead.

So whether you’re already part of the town, or thinking about making a move here, there’s no better time to experience Helston than May.

As of 26th March, more homeowners have chosen The Mather Partnership to sell their property than any other estate agent in Cornwall. According to Rightmove data.

If you read the national headlines about the property market, you could easily come away feeling confused.

Twenty one years ago, Emma walked through the door at The Mather Partnership for her very first day. Her job title was Office Administrator.

Not every property sells quickly. Sometimes a home can sit on the market for months without securing a buyer, leaving owners wondering what has gone wrong.
