What's On This September
September is a lovely time to be in West Cornwall. The summer crowds begin to ease, but there’s still plenty going on, with food, music, local heritage and some brilliant community events happening throughout the month.
Here are five to pop in the diary this September.
Penzance Food Festival 3 - 6 September
Penzance Food Festival returns to Penlee Park for four days celebrating some of the best food and drink Cornwall has to offer. Expect street food, local producers, live cooking and chef demonstrations, workshops, music and plenty more.
Entry to the main festival is free, making it a great one to drop into over the weekend.
Lizard Sea Shanty Festival 4 - 6 September
A little further down the peninsula, The Lizard will be filled with the sound of sea shanties for a whole weekend.
This free community festival brings live music and traditional sea songs to venues around the village, making it a great excuse to head down to one of Cornwall’s most southerly spots.
Heritage Open Days 11 - 20 September
Heritage Open Days return this September, giving visitors the chance to explore some of the fascinating historic places right on our doorstep, often completely free of charge.
Here in West Cornwall, Godolphin, Levant Mine and Trengwainton Garden are among the places taking part, offering a great opportunity to discover a little more about Cornwall’s history and heritage.
With events and open days taking place throughout the festival, it’s worth checking the programme to see what’s happening and when.
St Ives September Festival 12 - 26 September
Two weeks of music, art and culture take over St Ives for the annual September Festival.
There’s a packed programme of live music, exhibitions, open studios, talks, walks, workshops, comedy and street entertainment, with events happening across the town throughout the fortnight.
Fal Beer Fest 25 - 27 September
Rounding off the month is Fal Beer Fest at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth.
Running across the final weekend of September, the festival brings together a huge selection of beers and ciders alongside live music and food, making it a lively way to see out the month.
From food in Penzance and sea shanties on the Lizard to art in St Ives and a weekend in Falmouth, there’s plenty happening across our corner of Cornwall this September.
And with the beaches a little quieter and hopefully a few more sunny days still to come, it might just be one of the best months to enjoy it.
